Each year, December becomes the month to remember… at least when it comes to shopping! As swarms of people gather at malls and stores, they all have one common goal; get the best deals possible on their holiday gifts. But for those of us who want to avoid the holiday traffic, online shopping becomes a fantastic alternative. Despite beliefs that the deals on products are not as good online as they are in stores, there are many ways to cut back on your spending while sitting at your computer! So, if you are not in the mood to fight a stranger over the last discounted sweater on the rack, make online shopping your sanctuary by shopping safely and smartly.

The best way to ensure you get a good deal online is to shop earlier in the holiday season, before items start running low or become high in demand. The best time to do this is during Cyber Monday. Cyber Monday is the online shopping experience equivalent of Black Friday and it always lands on the Monday following Black Friday. Major retailers (such as Target or Macy’s) and online discounted sites (such as EBay) have the best deals of the season at this time. This is the day to shop ‘til you drop!

Signing up for newsletters from your favorite stores can bring in a lot of great deals. They are convenient because they are sent straight to your email! These newsletters tell you when and how to get the best discounts and often include coupons and additional savings. Also, holding on to coupons you get at stores may be a good idea because you can often use them during your online shopping!

Anytime you can find a deal that includes free shipping is a good time! It is often a good idea to buy a large amount of gifts at one site because the shipping is usually free! Also, at sites like EBay and Amazon.Com you can find refurbished items. Although they are technically not brand new items, they often fall into “like new” or “rarely used” categories and they are just as good! The gift receiver will never know the difference!

It is always important to compare prices no matter what you want to buy. Take the time to shop around! You may be surprised at what you find. By using sites like EBay, you can bid on items to try to get the best deal possible! Also, most sites will include customer ratings and reviews. These can really help you determine whether the item you had in mind is of good quality or if it is really what you want.

Be smart about where you shop! Make sure the sites you use are legitimate and safe and if there are any doubts in your mind, read the fine print! Finally, remember to have fun while you do your holiday shopping. Try not to make it a stressful situation! By following these simple steps you can save money and have some left over for next year. Enjoy you holidays!

I have been looking at a few listings on eBay for top brand junior/women clothing lots for like A&F, Hollister, GAP, American Eagle, The Limited, etc… BUTTTTT I just feel like that might be kind of tacky or is it smart shopping?

Purchasing a genuine diamond or gemstone – not a “faux” or “simulated” stone – on eBay can be a scary prospect. Unlike going to a jeweler, you can’t examine it in person and assess how it looks on your ring finger before you shell out your hard-earned cash. There’s the very real risk that you’re not going to get what you paid for.

But these concerns can be addressed by being a smart eBay shopper. After all, when you buy on eBay, the savings can be huge and you can find really unique jewelry items!

Before bidding on any diamond or precious gem (such as emerald, ruby or sapphire), make sure you understand how value is determined for that particular stone. There’s no excuse for not being an educated shopper. If eBay sellers don’t address these characteristics in their auction listings, click on the “Ask seller a question” link and get answers before you bid!

Determining Value

For diamonds, that means evaluating the four Cs: clarity, color, carat and cut.

Clarity is the term used to describe the size and number of inclusions (minute traces of non-crystallized carbon) in a diamond. Most are invisible to the naked eye; the larger and more numerous the inclusions are, the less valuable the diamond.

Diamond color grades start at D and go up through the alphabet. Truly colorless stones, graded D, are extremely rare and very valuable. The closer a diamond is to being colorless, the rarer and more valuable it is and the more it will shine.

Carat is how the weight of a diamond is measured. The larger the diamond (the rarer) the more expensive per carat it will be. Carat refers to weight, not size or diameter, although diamonds of identical weight can look larger or smaller depending on the cut.

The cut of a diamond determines how it refracts and reflects the light; a well-cut diamond will seem brighter and properly cut.

To find the best diamond that fits within your price range it essentially comes down to a compromise between the 4Cs and your consideration of which factors are most important to you.

There is a “fifth” C, or Certificate. A certificate diamond has a “report card” that grades the four traits mentioned above, including listing specific items about that particular diamond that are unique to it. A certificate goes a long way towards establishing the trustworthiness of an online diamond seller.

Gemstones such as rubies, emeralds, and sapphires usually undergo treatments to enhance color and fill cracks. The jewelry industry considers treatment of these three gemstones standard practice. Such treatments include oil and resin treatments; heat treatment, and chemical or “diffusion treatment.”

Most eBay sellers will provide details about any treatment applied to their gemstones. If they don’t, request the details before bidding on the item.

As you can see, what to look for specifically depends on the type of stone you’re looking for – and it’s not possible to explain all that in one article – but this is the type of info to look for, especially if you intend to spend very much money.

Finding Deals

Finding a deal on a diamond or expensive gemstone requires some counter-intuitive thinking. You’re looking for listings that won’t attract a lot of bids. Lots of bids mean lots of competitors and a higher final price.

How to find these less-popular listings? Try searching for misspelled words (e.g. “dimond” instead of “diamond”). Look for items that end at odd times (say, 3:00 AM), when most bidders are in bed. And listings without pictures don’t attract as much attention, either – you may find a real “gem” by taking the time to look.

Who to Trust and What to Look For

As with any eBay auction, the seller’s rating is extremely important. This is an aggregate score based on how other customers have rated them. Look for sellers with a very high rating (I suggest over 98%) and look at the customer feedback they’ve gotten. Sellers with lots of happy customers are pretty reliable.

Second, check for any return or exchange policies. A reputable seller wants repeat business and repeat business means happy customers who leave positive ratings. Getting that means they need to bend over backwards on returns and exchanges to avoid getting negative ratings on eBay’s services.

Third, see if the seller has an “About Me” page (look for the word me in blue and red letters in the “Meet the Seller” section) or an eBay store (there will be a link that says “Visit seller’s store”) or an “About Me” page.

Many times, the store or About Me page includes further information on the eBay seller. Often you’ll find addresses or phone numbers of a physical brick-and-mortar store, which can be very reassuring. Don’t hesitate to call and ask questions!

Protecting Yourself When Paying

Figure delivery costs into your final price – and look for suspiciously high shipping costs (a sign of an unscrupulous seller). If you spend a lot of money, make sure the seller will insure the item when it ships.

When paying, use a credit card – preferably through PayPal. PayPal allows you to pay securely with your credit card and it’s owned by eBay, which makes it the preferred payment mechanism for eBay sales. And there’s additional protection when buying through PayPal, up to $1,000 in value.

Following the steps above should help ensure a hassle-free diamond or gemstone buying experience on eBay. Good luck!

Many of us would consider ourselves smart shoppers. We always look at the discount racks first and try on a few of those items before turning our attention to the newest, and full price, outfits. Since the latest fashions never find their way to the sales rack until they are no longer “in”, we often leave the discount items and purchase the newest arrivals. The same goes for when we shop for items other than clothing. We could clip coupons but, whenever we do, we just end up losing them in our purse of forgetting them at home.

The truth of the matter is that we do not want to take the time to save money. This mentality is not only ridiculous; it is extremely expensive down the line. By just investing a few extra minutes, you will even up saving hundreds of dollars every year. More money in your pocket at the end of the year makes you feel more secure and happier! Whether you need groceries or discount bathroom vanities, these tips will help.

The first step is to clip coupons. Make a game of it every Sunday morning and involve the whole family! It will also help you plan the meals for the rest of the week according to the different items everyone seems excited to try. Once all the coupons are clipped, you need to store them right away in a mini binder. You can find this compact organizer at any office supply store. If you make a practice of putting the coupons in this filer every week, ideally separated by stores, you only need to remember to grab one item. You will be shocked to discover how much money coupons can actually save you!

Coupons will not be useful, however, when you need to purchase larger items. In order to find great prices, you need to surf the internet. If you are looking for discount double bathroom sink vanity, you will not find better deals anywhere else. The advantage of purchasing larger items, such as a vanity, online is that you do not need to pay extra mark-up prices for a brick and mortar store to have it in stock. Since their website is their “virtual” showroom, online retailers can often give you much lower prices.

These are just two great tips to get you started on saving money. At the end of the year, you will really be thankful you followed these suggestions and you may have some great new bathroom furniture in your home too!

The cost of living has become painful. One trip to the gas station and grocery store will clearly put you in touch with this pain. As painful as the $4.00 per gallon for gas is, it represents less than 3.5 percent of the family budget. Their food purchase is almost 4 times as much in the family expenses coming in just under 13%.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, The Consumer Price Index for the past year indicates the five grocery items that rank at the top of the inflated price list that you are now paying at your supermarkets. Number One on the list is FLOUR, increased by 37%. Not only does this increase affect the bag of flour you purchase, but every item that is made using flour….breads, bakery goods, etc.

Number Two on the list is EGGS, increased by 34.8%. Again, this goes beyond just the dozen or two of eggs that you buy for your family. The bakery goods and breads are also affected. The third most inflated priced item at an increased rate of 29.2% is SWEET PEPPERS (green, red, yellow). The GOOD NEWS here is that peppers are one of the easiest plants to grow with very little work. I will address home gardening in the next newsletter for all your summer salad needs.

The fourth most increased inflated price goes to MILK. MILK is up by 23.1%. This is one the most essential purchases on the grocery list for a family of any size with growing children. Number 5 on the list, up by 21.6%, is DRIED BEANS. This may be the most insulting of all, because it represents the most basic and last resort for the poor to put something on the table for the family to eat. One of the other world’s basic food staples, RICE, has gone up by 10% in the last month alone. Costco and Wal-mart have recently limited the quantity of RICE that you can buy. Families will need a cost of living calculator to keep up with these flour prices, egg prices, and milk prices to figure out all the changing weekly grocery prices.

If you have visited our website and read the “BeSmart….ShopSmart….Shopping Tips”, you know that we want you to save 40% to 50% off your weekly grocery shopping trips, including meat and high priced items such as coffee or laundry detergent. Of course, this is possible when you use your store loyalty card, store and manufacturer coupons, and take advantage of the BUY 1 GET 1 FREE OFFERS. We are very concerned about your bottom line savings on your groceries with these inflationary increases on some of the most basic food staples.

Being a good “Scout” you need to “Be prepared”. First, study your local grocery circulars. Become price conscious as to what the marketplace is asking for these particular items as well as what your cupboard and refrigerator is lacking. Secondly, read the ad papers thoroughly to OPTIMIZE YOUR SAVINGS. For example, at a chain drug store, reading through their weekly circular….in smaller print that the rest….I discovered that if I bought the brand name skin lotion at the regular price, I would receive the same brand name liquid soap for FREE — $3.99 value.

Another discovered sale at Safeway/Dominic’s was getting FREE Safeway brand pasta (sale priced at a $1.00 per/box) when you purchased a 26 oz. jar of a brand named Spaghetti Sauce. The spaghetti sauce was reduced to a sale price of 3/$6.00….that’s just $2.00 a jar, and less the free pasta….becomes a $1.00 item. This becomes a $1.00 MEAL, and represents an overall savings of $3.25 per each box of pasta and jar of sauce. NOTE: PASTA is one of the most flexible items you can have in your pantry for making simple dishes quickly, or creating a great meal of leftovers. Whole grain pasta is recommended for people with diabetes.

Use the ad circulars to plan your meals when you shop. I have advocated planning your menu around the SALE ITEMS in their circulars. Make sure you mark out what day of the week their shopping advertisement begins and ends. Some start on Wednesday and end on the following Tuesday. Others begin on Thursday and end on the following Wednesday. You could miss out on a sale item of importance by not knowing this.

For example, in their sale circular a brand name roasting chicken was on sale for 69 cents/per lb. at the local grocery store. Unlike the major store chains, this local grocery store week begins on Wednesday, not Thursday. So, if you didn’t pay attention to this fact, and wanted to purchase the roasting chicken on Wednesday before the sale ended, it would have been TOO LATE. The new week began, the sale was over, and the price increased by 80 cents to $1.49 per/lb. The same 5-lb. Roasting Chicken went from $3.45 to $7.45 — a lost savings of $4.00 per a 5lb. Chicken. That’s ONE GALLON of GAS. PAY ATTENTION and SAVE!

Don’t let image fool you that you are going to get the BEST PRICE because a store is known for its LOW PRICES. A recent story of comparative shopping prices revealed the following prices for a gallon of Skim Milk

•$2.69 at Aldi (discount store)
• $2.99 at Costco (saving club/membership needed)
• $3.99 at a local supermarket
• $4.49 at Wal-Mart

Who would have thought that? That’s an image buster for Wal-Mart always low prices advertisements! And don’t forget about looking at your local drug store such as CVS or Walgreens for some of these grocery items. Recently I was able to purchase 2- 64oz. Walgreens Brand Orange Juice for $3.69 compared to other grocery store offers of 2/$5.00, and 2 dozen eggs for $3.00 ($1.50 per dozen) compared to $2.89 per dozen elsewhere.

When your comparative shopping list results in SAVINGS at different stores, the discussion of the cost of gas comes into play. Is it worth it??? I usually suggest you map out a circular trip to include as many of the stores as possible on your list. This way you can max out your SAVINGS by getting as many of the sales items as possible with one shopping trip. With a single stop to save $5.00 on a can of coffee, meat, laundry detergent, or ice cream you will have covered the cost of a gallon of gas for your vehicle.

I believe in buying in BULK when often used family products are on sale. If you have the capabilities, utilize your freezer. When shopping for Milk on Sale, search the back of the shelf for the latest possible expiration date. If you choose to freeze milk, remove 8-to-12 ounces to allow for expansion during the freezing process. You can also freeze eggs in freezer bags; just crack them open into the bag for later use in baking or for scramble eggs. AVOID waisting Money and Food…Rather than throw out eggs or milk that are about to expire make a cake or pudding.

For additional savings, investing in a bread machine would help cut the cost of bread and provide you with Fresh Homemade Healthy Bread daily per your creative ingredients. Put the ingredients in the bread machine and in a period of three-to-three and a half hours, FRESH BREAD for less than a $1.00 a loaf. The bread machine will pay for itself in a short time with current store bought bread prices.

One U.S. Agricultural Department study estimated that 25% of the food bought by consumers and restaurants is wasted or spoiled before it can be served. TV commercials advertise storage bags that will preserve the life of fruits and vegetables. If you are going to spend the high prices for your fruits and vegetables, then it might be wise to spend $10.00 for these reusable bags. They will pay for themselves over a short period of time compared to the price of lost/spoiled produce.

For your meat purchases, avoid paying for bones. At $10.00/lb. every pound of bones will cost you ten dollars for the throw away. Or, you might choose to wait until its on sale. Many dollars are saved by using your store loyalty card when it comes to your meat purchases. Buy Sale Price Meat in larger quantities, cut in portions, and FREEZE. Meat provides flexibility in one’s menu planning. First meal is hot, freshly cooked. Leftover portions can be served as cold as sandwiches, or cubed and added to a fresh salad. Any other cubed leftover meat can be added to soup. THAT’S FOUR MEALS from one piece of meat.

Speaking of soup, homemade or store bought, you don’t have to waste the crumbs from the bottom of the bag of chips, or Doritos (“breakage” in food industry language). Smash the remaining crumbs in the bag, and empty the crumbs on top of the soup when ready to serve for added flavor and fiber…no waste.

To eat healthier and save your time cooking, I recommend purchasing a Ronco “Showtime” Rotisserie. Put the meat on the spit or in the basket, set the timer, and let it cook away, allowing the fat to drip away. Place vegetables in steamer tray on top of the unit. When the timer goes off, take the meat out, and serve. This is a Very Nice MOTHER’S DAY GIFT that will KEEP ON GIVING. But remember: you’ll have to figure out what you want to do with your free time while everything is cooking. It can cook up to a 15 lb. turkey. I have had mine for over six years.

Again, read your grocery ad circular carefully. Try to take advantage of the first opening days’ “Sale Specials”. Some stores run specials within the store that will provide FREEBIES or MONEY BACK for your NEXT SHOPPING VISIT. Last month Safeway/Dominick’s had a $10.00 kick back for your next visit on a purchase of $30.00 or more of certain listed brand name products …that’s a 33% savings right there. Many of these items weren’t ON SALE. This week they have two $5.00 kick back offers, the first is instant at the check out counter, the second is for your next visit.

Lastly, keep your eyes open for offers to add to your Government Stimulus Checks or Tax Refund Checks by Grocery Stores or Department Stores. Jewel (owned by Albertson) is offering a 10% Bonus if you use one of these CHECKS to purchase a Jewel-Osco Gift Card in increments of $300 up to $1200. Limit one offer per household. That’s a FREE $30 to $120 depending on the size of your check. Details are available in the store. Using these Be Smart…Shop Smart…Shopping Tips can add another 40-to-50% to this free money opportunity. Make Your Money Work for YOU!

So BeSmart…..ShopSmart…..Save Money…..Be Happy!

Price comparison often occupies our daily coffee house gossips nowadays. No doubt, price comparison was prevalent among the consumers from time immemorial, but with the début of online shopping, price comparison, also known as shopping comparison is gaining iconic popularity among the shoppers.

One of the most common problems the consumers face every now and then is the soaring costs of products. Many a times, they find the same product at varied rates. So it becomes quite difficult to shop a product. That is why a strategy like the price comparison shopping can best help the consumers and work as an effective guide for shopping. Price comparison is thus nothing, but something which can offer the lucrative shopping options to the customers.

Today, there is no shortage of portals in the internet that basically caters to price comparison services. With a plethora of price comparison sites the consumers are now getting enormous avenues to select the most suitable product in an affordable price. Either the consumers want a preview of the product or know about the functionalities of a particular thing, he can compare considering the information listed in the portals. It is also quite easy to compare products in the price comparison web sites, because they also provide special tools for fast and easy comparison.

While choosing a certain price comparison shop, it is however, always better that the consumers should rely on the popular players, because the benefits offered by different portals differ and sometimes the strategy applied by the price comparison portals are not up to the market standards.

Don’t get allured by the attractive offers provides by the price comparison sites! Instead research and analyse to find out the best price of the thing you want to purchase. Check out the prices with great attention and discover the opportunities for finding discounted and subsidized rates. Though earlier it would have been a difficult task to go to every shop physically and compare the prices and products, with the advent of online price comparison sites it has become an easier process as well as less time consuming.

Above all, price comparison has numerous advantages like discounts, easy accessibility, cashbacks, gift hampers, free gifts etc. It offers all details about the products available in the market. That is why, price comparison is perhaps the best way for smart shopping!

A few things to consider before heading out to shop this Holiday season or anytime. This is Part 1 of a series. Please watch for future parts as posted.
Help answer the question about smart shopping
Is this cheap shopping or smart shopping?
Im a guy and I actually like shopping for clothes. However I am a smart shopper tho so when I do buy my clothes I get em from discount stores such as TJ Maxx, AJ Wright, Ross, Marshalls, Burlington, etc. I like buying name brand clothes but some of these stores are unnecessarily expensive. Does anyone think I being cheap or just a smart shopper? If you think the same as me, what is your favorite store and/or items to buy?

Current info about weight loss and Dieting Success is not always the easiest thing to locate. Fortunately, this report includes the latest weight loss Success info available.

It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of weight loss Success is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about weight loss Success.

While shopping may not qualify as an aerobic activity, it can certainly help you to shed the pounds, if you follow the right formula. What you buy largely determines what you will eat. Therefore, if you want to maintain a healthy diet at home, you’ll need to do some advanced planning before heading out to the supermarket.

The secret to weight loss may begin with your shopping list. You need to take some time before going to the store to assess what your nutritional needs are. For instance, a healthy diet might very well include breads and cereals, dairy products, vegetables and fruits, along with meat, fish and poultry. However, you’ll need to decide on exactly which products to buy within each food category.

For instance, rather than purchasing white bread or cereals with little fiber, consider whole wheat bread and whole wheat cereals. Pass up the whole milk and whole milk yogurt and buy non-fat milk and yogurt instead. You should avoid iceberg lettuce and opt for Romaine; select fresh fruit rather than fruit in heavy syrup. You may be tempted to buy fried chicken, bacon or spareribs, but choose low-fat options such as baked chicken, lean hamburger, and grilled fish.

It’s a good idea to go grocery shopping after you have eaten a full meal. Otherwise, your hunger could drive you to buy junk food and other unhealthy snacks. If you are operating on a full stomach, you’ll think more clearly and you will be less likely to buy food impulsively. Also, it is critically important that you do not buy more food than you need. Otherwise, you will have a powerful incentive to overeat.

Before you go shopping, you might want to check out the layout of the supermarket. Find out where you can find those items that are likely to appear on your list. Otherwise, you could find yourself browsing the shelves, looking for food that appears interesting—but could also be quite fattening. Certainly, it may take some extra time to “scope out” the supermarket, but it will be well worth the effort, if it results in weight loss.

Whenever possible, you should buy individually packaged food. These single servings allow you to maintain proper portion control. For instance, if you feel you must indulge in potato chips, you will be far better off if you buy a single-serving bag rather than the family pack. Remember, large portions equal weight gain.

You might actually want to avoid shopping with coupons. Coupons can tempt you to buy high-calorie items that you might otherwise pass up. While everyone wants a good bargain, you don’t want to end up paying for that deal by gaining additional pounds. It’s a sad fact that you will rarely find a coupon for fresh fruit and vegetables. But you might think of the situation this way: You will end up saving money if you eat “fresh” because you will not have to invest in additional clothes.

Also, when you’re considering which foods to buy, concentrate on the product labels. There, you’ll find a great deal of nutritional information, indicating fat content, calorie content, portion size, and vitamin and mineral content. If you end up bringing the product home, you should serve the item according to the suggested portion size. In other words, if a portion equals one-half cup, don’t opt for two cups. In essence, you should be treating food as if it’s a medication that must be used as directed. In this way, you should avoid the weight loss that comes with overeating.

It is interesting to note that the American Institute for Cancer Research determined that only 12 percent of shoppers determined portion size by using the label. As a result, paying attention to nutrition labels is a counter-cultural thing to do. But it is certainly a good habit to get into. Otherwise, at the end of the day, you could end up with far more fat than you bargained for.

You may be amazed at the amount of weight you can lose just by diligent shopping. A little advanced planning can go a long way to ensuring weight loss. And you might actually save yourself some money, since you will no longer be buying expensive snacks.

That’s how things stand right now. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news.

In recent years, online shopping has become very popular among all classes of people. The sheer idea of being able to shop from the comfort of home and getting them delivered at the doorstep is exciting for many online users.

The Internet is abound with online shopping guides that help customers to choose the right product from the right place. Because the Internet has made it easier for new products to be introduced faster, an online <u>shopping guide is vital to know where the best brands/products are sold.

Here are some tips to help you shop smart on the Internet.

1. Price Comparison Sites – Take help from price comparison sites that list different varieties of the same brand and their price listings. Some sites even provide information on shipping deals and user reviews for different products.

2. Coupons – Check out sites that offer sales coupon codes as part of their promotional activity. In fact many sites send their past and regular customer’s coupon codes when a discount sale is planned.

3. Deals – There are some sites that alert customers when a great deal is being offered by a particular site, say ebay.com. All you have to do is mention the product type and your email address.

4. Google alerts – Lets you know the latest information on any thing as and when the information is released on the Internet. It can be used to find latest information on new releases of consumer electronic goods.

5. Social Media – Many marketing organizations are now releasing their deals and offers on social networks. This way, word spreads faster on the products and there are more takers for the discount offers. So being part of any social networking site helps to be aware of what is selling where.

6. Personalized shopping – There are some sites that provide shopping answers to customers. For e.g., if a customer wants to know where he can get HDMI cables or where he can get great discounts for denim wear; other users pitch in with answers regarding the price, usage and place of sales. This way, the user procures first hand information from another user like him, which helps in making right product choices.

With so many ways to shop smart on the web, take a plunge and see how well you are guided into making the right purchasing decision.

Happy Shopping!
